Rural women seeking to be inspired and learn new skills have been encouraged to register for the annual NSW Rural Women’s Gathering, which will be held from September 12 to 14 in Coolamon.
Department of Primary Industries project coordinator, Emma Regan, said this year’s theme for the popular community event is ‘Heritage with Heart’.
“Rural Women’s Gatherings offer women an opportunity to get away from the stresses of everyday life to learn new skills, be inspired by keynote speakers and to meet and network with other women,” Ms Regan said.
“This year’s Rural Women’s Gathering promises to deliver a fabulous weekend, full of inspiring opportunities.
“Up to 400 rural women and men are expected to gather in Coolamon to take part in an enriching experience of education, skills training and information sharing.”
A highlight of the weekend’s activities will see the Minister for Primary Industries, Katrina Hodgkinson, launch the 2014 Hidden Treasures Honour Roll, which formally recognises rural women volunteers.
Ms Regan said the extensive program promises to have something on offer for everyone.
“Workshops include biodynamic farming, creating a business you love, 10thousandgirl Money Makeover, jewellery making, painting, cooking, local garden tours, strengthening the community voice, gingerbread house making and many more activities which are designed to appeal to a diverse audience,” she said.
“Men are also invited to attend and be part of a special program with tours and activities which may be of interest to them.
”Women will be able to hear from high-profile keynote speakers including well-known author, researcher and sex therapist, Bettina Arndt and 2014 NSW-ACT RIRDC Rural Women’s Award winner, Pip Job.
“Dinner on Saturday night will be a drawcard with local cuisine on offer.”
